The Pittsburgh Pirates activated right-handed starting pitcher Quinn Priester from the 15-day injured list Tuesday amid a flurry of roster moves.

The Pirates also optioned outfielder Edward Olivares to Triple-A Indianapolis, while left-hander Justin Bruihl accepted an outright assignment to Indianapolis.

Priester, 23, last played in the majors on June 2 before going on the IL with a right lat injury. He went 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA in two rehab starts at Triple-A.

Pittsburgh made Priester a first-round draft pick (No. 18 overall) in 2019, and he made his major league debut last year with 10 appearances, eight of them starts. He started the 2024 season 0-5 with a 4.83 ERA in six starts.

Across 16 career games (14 starts), Priester is 3-8 with a 6.61 ERA. He’s struck out 56 batters and walked 37 over 81 2/3 innings.

Olivares, 28, was batting .224 with five home runs and 23 RBIs in 55 games in his first season with the Pirates. The former San Diego Padres and Kansas City Royals outfielder is a career .254 hitter with 29 homers and 96 RBIs in 285 games.

Bruihl, 27, was designated for assignment on Sunday. He allowed six earned runs in 5 2/3 innings over seven appearances to start the season, yielding a 9.53 ERA. He joined Pittsburgh this year after stints with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Colorado Rockies.
