Its gate may be down, but the owners of Dynaco haven’t given up on rebuilding the warm, wooded wonder of a bar that once stood on Bedford Avenue between Quincy Street and Lexington Avenue.
They’ll be hosting a fundraiser down the street tonight at Doris to help raise the cash needed for repairs to damages sustained in January, when a multi-alarm fire ripped through the apartments above it, forcing the bar to close indefinitely.
Owners and brothers Ben and Adam Forgash didn’t wait long to ask for help from the community it served for 13 years, launching a GoFundMe page just a few days after the building was ordered to vacate due to “extreme damage from the fire, water, and chemicals.” But, at the time of writing, that campaign has reached about 45% of its $200,000 goal (or just north of $89,000).
And so, it’s on to the next push, and the neighborhood’s chipping in to help Dynaco pick up the pieces. The event at Doris will feature a raffle for gift cards to local shops, bars, and restaurants, and all proceeds collected on tickets will go to the Dynaco rebuilding fund. There will also, of course, be music, starting at 7 p.m, with The National Reserve and a DJ hitting the booth around 9, and a few special guests from the bar will be MCing and helping to distribute the merriments.
